ATTENTION fresh water!

There is not much known about the biology of these animals. They live in fresh water rivers but their larvae need brackish or saltwater for their development.

Only the males have the pom poms, not the females. As part of the family Varunidae they are relatives to the mitten crabs (Eriocheir spp.).
