Info

The holotype of the sleeper goby Calumia eilperinae was collected by Dr. Gerry Allen in a protected muddy reef near the coast at 5 -12 m depth in Cenderawasih Bay, Papua Barat Province, Indonesia.
The small goby inhabits crevices and caves here.

Etymology: "eilperinae": Named for Juliet Eilperin, an environmental journalist who has continued to expose and support the Bird’s Head Seascape marine conservation program.

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
