Narella virgosa is a bushy growing deep sea gorgonian, which is so far only known from a few deep sea mountains
- from the southern part of Karin Ridge Seamount, southeast of Johnston Atoll
- from Rapano Seamount, Musicians Seamounts, Hawaiii
- from Castellano Seamount, about 370 km south of the Midway Islands
The use of ROV's is necessary to observe corals at great depths, and to collect samples.
The holotype of this species harbored several large orange-red brittle stars.
Etymology. The species name "virgosa" is from Latin meaning "bushy" and refers to the bushy growth habit of the colonies.
