Info

Zibrowius alberti is an inconspicuous small deep-sea crustose anemone found on the deep-sea gorgonian Paracalyptrophora josephinae (Lindström, 1877) on Condor Seamount, an underwater seamount located about 17 km west-southwest of Faial Island, Azores, in the eastern Atlantic Ocean.

Paratypes of colonial zoantharia were found on Paracalyptrophora josephinae (Lindström, 1877) and Dentomuricea aff. meteor Grasshoff, 1977 on the surface of octocorals, often in orthogonal arrangement around the axis of the gorgonian.

At the depths where the gorgonians settle with their sessile crustose anemones, photosynthesis by zooxanthellae is no longer possible, so that both animals depend on the capture of zooplankton.

Etymology: The name of this species is dedicated to Prince Albert I of Monaco for his promotion of oceanographic sciences in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and for his oceanographic campaigns in the Azores, which contributed to a better knowledge of CWCs and associated fauna in the region.
