Info

Bathystethus cultratus is a compressed, silvery-gray taxonomic perch with a strongly rounded, leaf-like ventral profile, two dorsal fins with a row of isolated spines followed by a low, elongate soft fin, a low, scaly sheath along the base of the second dorsal and anal fins, and a forked caudal fin.

The Gray Knifefish lives pelagically in surface waters and feeds on plankton in fast swimming schools.

The specific name "cultratus" is Latin and means "knife-shaped".
