The mullet (Pseudupeneus grandisquamis) is mostly found away from reefs on sandy or muddy bottoms but also near the coast and also in deep waters.
On the back the mullet is brownish-red to violet, on the sides reddish or pinkish and on the belly whitish.
On the lateral lines below the dorsal fin is a blackish spot.
There are pearly spots and stripes on the head, and narrow pearly stripes or rows of spots on the top of the body.
Mullet specialize in finding and consuming invertebrates and small fish hidden in the sand
