Mesopontonia verrucimanus is so far only known from the waters of Indonesia (Tanimbar Islands, 184-186 meters depth) nd around Jejudo Island, Korea (54 - 58 meters depth).
Brief Description:
The entire body and appendages of this small shrimp are nearly transparent with scattered emerald green chromatophores and a longitudinal bright red band along the ventral surface of the body from the carapace to the fifth abdominal segment.
Etymology:
The species name "verruca" (Latin) means wart, and "manus" (Latin), hand, with reference to the warty inner surface of the second walking leg limbs.
Mesopontonia verrucimanus lives symbiotically on the gorgonian Ellisella cf. limbaughi, the sponge Raspailia (Raspaxilla) hirsuta and the black coral Myriopathes lata.
