Info

Gobioclinus kalisherae (Jordan, 1904)

The Downy Blenny occurs in rocky and rubble shores with algal mats, reefs and seagrass beds. Can be found in holes and crevices or amongst coral formations. This Blenny feeds mainly on crustaceans.

Very similar to ther Hairy Blenny, Labrisomus nuchipinnis, the Longfin Blenny (Gobioclinus haitiensis), the Mimic Blenny (Gobioclinus guppyi), the Palehead Blenny (Gobioclinus gobio), the Puffcheek Blenny (Gobioclinus bucciferus) and the Whitecheek Blenny (Labrisomus albigenys).

The specific name " kalisherae" honours the painter Emilia Kalisher (1868-1959), at the request of her husband husband Joseph Cheesman Thompson (1874-1943).

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
