Info
Paraconger caudilimbatus was previously known only from the western Atlantic, from North Carolina, USA, to Venezuela.
Prof. Dr. Peter Wirtz managed to take a photo of the species at a depth of 25 meters during a dive around Sao Tome and Príncipe, Gulf of Guinea, in the eastern Atlantic Ocean.
Paraconger caudilimbatus is generally found on rocky reefs on the continental shelf, around rocky outcrops, and over muddy and sandy bottoms.
The species has been observed at night on the water surface by Dr. Ross Robertson.
Paraconger caudilimbatus is grayish brown in color; the edges of the dorsal and anal fins are dark.
This conger eel species appears to be understudied, with maximum depth distribution data ranging from 70 meters - 938 meters.
Synonym: Echelus caudilimbatus Poey, 1867
