Toxicity

Hexanchus griseus is (very) poisonous and the poison can kill you under circumstances!!!
If you want to keep Hexanchus griseus, inform yourself about the poison and its effects before buying. Keep a note with the telephone number of the poison emergency call and all necessary information about the animal next to your aquarium so that you can be helped quickly in an emergency.
The telephone numbers of the poison emergency call can be found here:

Overview Europe: European Association of Poisons Centres and Clinical Toxicologists

This message appears for poisonous, very poisonous and also animals whose poison can kill you immediately. Every human reacts differently to poisons. Please therefore weigh the risk for yourself AND your environment very carefully, and never act lightly!

Info

Hexanchus griseus is represented circumglobally, but the bluntnose sixgill shark is certainly one of the least observed sharks at all,
This is partly due to its deep distribution, but also to the fact that it usually only comes to the surface at night.

Unlike very fast sharks like the shortfin mako, the bluntnose sixgill shark is a leisurely, slow swimmer.

The vast majority of sharks have 5 gill slits; the bluntnose sixgill shark (Heptranchias perlo (Bonnaterre, 1788) and the bigeye sixgill shark (Notorynchus cepedianus (Péron, 1807) have the namesake 6 gill slits.
Sharks with 7 gill slits are the Sharphead Sevengill Shark (Heptranchias perlo (Bonnaterre, 1788) and the Broadnose Sevengill Shark (Notorynchus cepedianus (Péron, 1807).

Because Hexanchus griseus lives to depths of 2.5 kilometers in cold waters, high rates of locomotion would be an uneconomical waste of energy for the hunter, which thus specializes in less active prey.

We are not aware of any fatal attacks on humans by the solid gray bluntnose sixgill sharks.

Shark bites can be quite lethal to humans, especially the 10 most dangerous shark species are considered and can launch unprovoked attacks from humans: - Great white shark - Bull shark - Tiger shark - Sand tiger shark - Blacktip shark - Bronze shark - Spinner shark - Blue shark - Hammerhead shark - Whitetip shark The bite by a shark is one of the most basic fears of humans, but the number of deaths caused by shark attacks is very low: in 2015 there were 98 attacks by sharks and in 6 cases the attack resulted in a fatal end for humans. In 2016 there were 107 attacks by sharks and in 8 cases the attack resulted in a fatal end for humans. In 2022, there were a total of 108 shark attacks in the USA.

Conversely, however, 100 million sharks were killed by humans. http://www.zeit.de/2016/37/haie-toetung-tierschutz-surfer The risk of being bitten by a shark varies greatly from region to region, with most attacks occurring in Florida, Australia and South Africa. Please be careful not to go into the water with bleeding skin wounds, heed bathing warnings from the authorities and be very careful when using surfboards, as sharks can easily confuse the boards with seals and harbour seals. After shark bites, always call a doctor or / and the rescue service as soon as possible, as heavy bleeding can be life-threatening.
