Salmaciella oligopora ist ein recht kleiner Seeigel, dem insgesamt wenig Bedeutung zukommt.

Seine Farbe variiert von rot bis schwarz, aber das rote Kreuz ist immer deutlich sichtbar.

Salmaciella oligopora kann sich schnell fortbewegen und bis zu 42 cm in einer Minute zurücklegen (Miskelly, 2002).
