Info

Odontopyxis trispinosa Lockington, 1880

Adult specimens of Odontopyxis trispinosa occur from the central Gulf of California / Baja California to southeast Alaska in sandy or rocky habitats. While Odontopyxis trispinosa in Canada and Alaska are mostly found in shallow water zones (cold water), the bullheads in the Gulf of California / Baja California are only found in very large and also colder depth distributions. In the Pacific Northwest, it rests on sand within the submersible limits.

However, you need really good eyes to spot the fish even in shallow water as it is extremely difficult to detect due to its excellent camouflage, small size and habit of resting on jagged bottoms.

Larvae can be found in plankton samples throughout its range.
