Living marine sponges have a branched shape and protruding oscules arranged in a row on the upper side
The color of Callyspongia (Callyspongia) pulitzeri is light purple with visible whitish lines.
When dried, the sea sponge is microhispid and spiny on the upper side near the oculi, smoother in the basal part.
The consistency is tough and non-compressible.
The Mozambique record is the first record of the species since its original description from Kenya.
Etymology:
Callyspongia subtilis Pulitzer-Finali, 1993 was a junior homonym that was recently removed by Van Soest & Hooper (2020), who renamed the species in honor of Gustavo Pulitzer-Finali.
