Info
Liocranium pleurostigma is one of two species of the genus Liocranium and belongs to the order of scorpionfish and the family Tetraroginae (Greek: “tetra” = four, “rogos” = wrinkled).
A striking feature of this species is a fairly large dark spot located above the pectoral fins below the lateral line.
The second species, Liocranium praepositum, usually has three black spots on the side of the body, with the two rear spots sometimes merging into one larger spot.
In addition, the rear tip of the depressed pelvic fin spine in Liocranium pleurostigma usually extends to the anus (in Liocranium praepositum, it does not usually extend to the anus).
Neither species is a strong swimmer.
Overall, Liocranium pleurostigma is little known and studied, so there is not even reliable information about its diet.
