Toxicity

Asthenosoma marisrubri is (very) poisonous and the poison can kill you under circumstances!!!
If you want to keep Asthenosoma marisrubri, inform yourself about the poison and its effects before buying. Keep a note with the telephone number of the poison emergency call and all necessary information about the animal next to your aquarium so that you can be helped quickly in an emergency.
The telephone numbers of the poison emergency call can be found here:

This message appears for poisonous, very poisonous and also animals whose poison can kill you immediately. Every human reacts differently to poisons. Please therefore weigh the risk for yourself AND your environment very carefully, and never act lightly!

Info

This beautiful sea urchin is extremely toxic.

Asthenosoma marisrubri, the species of fire urchin found in the Red Sea, has long been considered a color variant of Asthenosoma varium. Only in 1998 has it been described as a distinct species.

Regarding the husbandry and toxicity of A. marisrubri the same precautions that have been described for A. varium apply. Despite the relatively simple requirements for maintaining this animal in a species tank (it is not reef safe), to keep it should - if at all - only be tried by specialists that are familiar with venomous animals.
