The Big-scaled Parma lives in eastern Australia between Cape Tribulation, Queensland and Sydney, New South Wales and at Cu Lao Cham, Vietnam and the Spratly-Islands in the South China Sea, where the fisch is found reef-associated in a depth of 2 to 20 meters.
