Info

Lythrypnus gilberti (Heller & Snodgrass, 1903)

This species is endemic to the Eastern Pacific, and is found only in the Galápagos.

The Galapagos blue-banded goby is a tiny, bold and aggressive fish, which lives in small recesses of rocky reefs, slopes and walls. The goby feeds on various small benthic crustaceans in a depthrange of 1 to 40 meters.

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
