Nucella emarginata

Nucella emarginata is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Muricidae, the murex snails or rock snails. The Dog Whelk lives in the intertidal zone on rocks. Nucella predacious, feeding on barnacles, snails and mussels, but also feeds on carrion.

The Emarginate Dogwinkle is a rocky intertidal gastropod carnivore that feeds on a variety of sessile and sedentary species such as barnacles, mussels ( such as Mytilus californianus), and limpets.

As a food specialist and a formidable predator, this snail is not suitable for aquariums.
