Acentrogobius janthinopterus is an estuarine species that typically lives in nearshore marine and brackish waters, often in mangrove swamps, and in natural and artificial marine lakes.
This hardy goby is also found in estuaries over sand or mud bottoms, in tidal currents, and near reefs when mangrove swamps are nearby.

Acentrogobius janthinopterus is an amphidromous migratory fish.

Description:
Acentrogobius janthinopterus is a pale gray to tan-colored goby with a brown-mottled back, five brown spots or clusters of smaller spots in a row along the midline, and scattered iridescent green spots and a dark band along the margin of the caudal fin.
