Info

KwaZulu-Natal is a province on the east coast of South Africa that extends into the western Indian Ocean, the area around the main state of Durban is not only appreciated by water sports enthusiasts.

Parapriacanthus kwazulu was first described in 2016 by Randall & Bogorodsky, the apparently only photo of the species was taken by Allan D. Connell, who had also collected other specimens with a multi-pronged spear.
As these specimens were no longer usable for examination and identification for an understandable reason, an undamaged animal had to be found, which was finally collected with a hand net.

The male pictured was not yet fully grown at the time of capture and was 3.7 cm in size.

Information on the biology of Parapriacanthus kwazulu is not available.

Etymology. This species is named after KwaZulu-Natal, the province of the Republic of South Africa where it was collected. This province was created in 1994 from the merger of the former provinces of KwaZulu and Natal.
